Programme Overview

Thank you for your enquiry about the Bachelor of Fashion or the Certificate in Fashion.

As you may be aware we recently made the difficult decision not to have an intake into year one of these programmes in 2014.

This decision was not because we had decided to discontinue the programme, but rather that the enrolments in the programme this year were too small in number to ensure the high academic standards and quality learning experience which we continue to maintain across all programmes at UCOL.

Whanganui UCOL continues to deliver the Bachelor of Fashion to all students currently enrolled in years 2 and 3 of the Degree, and during 2014 we will undertake to explore the reasons for the recent low enrolments.

Both the Certificate in Fashion and the Bachelor of Fashion have been very successful programmes at UCOL , with graduates winning awards, becoming market leaders and gaining top jobs in a range of fashion related industries.

It is very important to us that we deliver programmes which are in demand by the public and meet market trends, so please feel free to provide us with feedback if you are interested in a fashion design or textiles programme of any description. Your feedback is important to us, and will help to inform possible changes and decisions to be made in the coming months.

If you are interested in enrolling in a Fashion programme for 2015, please check back with us for a progress update at the start of semester two (mid-July).

All the very best,

Overview

UCOL’s Certificate in Fashion is a one-year full-time Certificate programme for people wanting to learn about the fashion industry.

Over the year you will have the opportunity to develop technical skills in sewing, pattern making and design to industry standards with a focus on the design of different garments that are then made into patterns and constructed into a final outfit.

The programme is designed to prepare you for employment in the fashion industry, or for continuation on to further education. On successful completion of the programme you may (subject to meeting the relevant entry criteria) be eligible to enter the UCOL Bachelor of Fashion.
