Short Course in Competency Assessment for Registered Nurses L7 – (CAP)
Applications for the 2013 will open 1st September 2012.
The Short Course in Competency Assessment for Registered Nurses programme provides candidates with the opportunity to demonstrate competence against the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) Competencies for Registered Nurse Scope of Practice (2005). “Competence is the combination of skills, knowledge, attitudes, values and abilities that underpin effective performance as a nurse” (NCNZ, 2006).
This qualification allows nurses to apply for registration as nurses with the NCNZ (according to their scope of practice).
Applications are assessed on an individual basis and in accordance with the requirements of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (2003).

Allow 20 hours in class and an additional 20 hours lecturer directed learning a week on average.

Uniform
For Female Students:
- Regulation polo shirt or safari jacket with UCOL logo
- Navy or Black Skirt / trousers / dress shorts (knee length)
- Black or brown closed toe flat shoes with back
For Male students:
- Regulation polo shirt or safari jacket with UCOL logo
- Navy or Black Blue trousers / shorts
- Black or brown closed toe flat shoes with back
*no sports shoes to be worn with the UCOL uniform
You will be issued with one UCOL shirt/jacket. You will be required to pay a refundable deposit of $10.00 for the shirt/jacket.
The remainder of the uniform must be supplied by you at your own cost.
Clinical Placement Costs
Any travel and accommodation costs associated with your nursing practice/clinical placement is to be met by you at your own cost.
