Welcome from the Nurse Education Team
The Nurse Education Team is one of UCOL’s largest teams. Currently we have more than 500 students based on three sites: Palmerston North, Masterton and Whanganui.
The UCOL Bachelor of Nursing is one of the most up to date in the country: the latest version of our three year degree was introduced in February 2009. The new focus on a student-centred curriculum puts the student in charge of their learning. Later in the programme, it enables students to focus on areas of health care in which they have a particular interest.
The programme includes six weeks of clinical experience in the first year. This allows students to begin making links between theory covered in class room teaching and the realities of clinical practice at an early stage in their learning.
The programme leads to the award of a BN degree, and entry into the Nursing Council of New Zealand State Finals examination. Our students have an excellent record in passing this examination on their first attempt. Graduates surveys indicate that UCOL graduates are in demand throughout New Zealand and overseas.
The team also offers a degree pathway for registered nurses who wish to upgrade their diploma to a degree, and a Short Course Certificate in Competency Assessment for overseas nurses wishing to gain NZ registration, or for NZ registered nurses wishing to return to practice.
As a team we are committed to student success and make the student the focus of all of our activities. We offer a warm welcome, and a caring environment.
