UCOL supports the Government’s intention to keep improving the performance of tertiary institutions. We are committed to a process of continuous improvement and evolution to meet changing needs. We aim to meet government’s goals and exceed them, where possible.
Resources and initiatives were re-prioritised in 2010 into actions designed to improve UCOL’s educational performance, focusing particularly on course completion rates and improvements have been made.

UCOL is also doing well in other areas measured by the Tertiary Education Commission, such as retaining students in study, student’s progressing to a higher level of study, and completion of qualifications. “I am very happy with our efforts to date. We have exceeded most of the targets that we agreed to with the TEC, ahead of time. I am confident that our 2011 results will continue the positive trend” says Mr McElroy. “Our focus remains on improving student learning outcomes and having an open mind to try new ideas that help this.”
UCOL is recognised as one of the most student-oriented polytechnics in New Zealand, with award winning student services and quality teaching, reflected in high pass rates for our degree programmes. We offer open entry where possible, as a contribution to the good health of our communities.
