The Universal College of Learning or UCOL is an award winning, government-funded institute of technology and polytechnic with three campuses in the lower half of the North Island of New Zealand.
Our style is practical, down-to-earth, creative and adventurous. We take advantage of the latest technology to improve teaching and learning.
Our lecturers have industry experience and continue to win awards in their fields. Our programmes are created and updated with input and support from the relevant industry. This means our graduates can hit the ground running, equipped with the skills, knowledge and attitude that employers need.
UCOL’s multi campus structure services three separate but adjoining regions, Manawatu, Masterton and Wanganui. That structure is unique in New Zealand and adds a special diversity and vibrancy to the UCOL study experience.
It also means students get added value: They can tap into special expertise or knowledge available at another UCOL campus, via interactive video conferencing, on-line and streamed lectures, and other shared resources.
A feature of UCOL is our commitment to open access and support for every student who wants to succeed in their study.
We offer a broad range of programmes, including foundation and certificate programmes, diplomas, degrees and some post-graduate options.
Programmes are available from our three campuses in Palmerston North, Masterton and Wanganui and many are also available online, using the latest web technology.
UCOL is also distinctive because of:
- our emphasis on student success, encouraging even the most hesitant learner,
- the quality of our student experience, and
- our belief that successful study changes lives, by earning a qualification, getting a job, or gaining an improved sense of self-worth.
We are committed to innovation, in teaching and learning as well as student support services. We were an early leader in developing high technology Learning Hubs, giving students access to computers, wireless connections and spacious study areas.
We also provide the best in student support services. They include our Student Resource Centre in Palmerston North and our UCOL-wide Personal Education Plan, to help students map their study. Both have won national awards for innovation and have been adopted by other teaching institutions.
Our Vision is: To be a vibrant, exciting learning organisation creating futures for our communities.
