UCOL students will be able to travel for free on a new Whanganui-Palmerston North return daily commuter service run by Horizons Regional Council in 2017.
The service will replace the Whanganui-Palmerston North return bus service that UCOL has run in previous years, and will be trialled for two years by Horizons – starting February 7.
UCOL Director of Facilities and Risk Management, Jonathan Dann, says UCOL has been working with Horizons to ensure capacity for students on the service and it is exciting to be working with the regional transport provider.
“It makes sense for UCOL to work with the wider community on transport solutions for our students, and we are pleased to be working with Horizons to this effect.”
“Staff will also be able to travel free on the service, which will have free Wifi available and more seats than UCOL’s previous service.”
The service will be reviewed and feedback to Horizons on the service is welcomed via emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Palmerston North to Whanganui return inter-campus bus service will continue to be run by UCOL using Tranzit services, with passenger registrations required, King Street departure, and new times: depart Palmerston North at 6.45am and return from Whanganui at 5.15pm to fit with the new Horizons service.
Students require UCOL ID cards to travel for free (or proof of enrolment if before 1 March).
For students with intercampus travel needs before 7 February, a van service is available from Whanganui to Palmerston North return, and from Palmerston North to Whanganui return.
