UCOL’s Incident Management Team has been assembled by the Chief Executive and met at UCOL at 7.30pm tonight to assess the situation developing in Whanganui where Civil Defence have declared an emergency.
Civil Defence have asked that UCOL’s Whanganui campus
be vacated and closed, and the Chief Executive has confirmed the campus will be closed as soon as practical, including all day Wednesday, 5 April 2017. This includes Hatrick Street and Heads Road locations. All students and staff are advised to stay at home, there is no access to UCOL sites.
The Incident Management Team will continue to monitor the situation closely and will advise mid afternoon Wednesday about what is happening on Thursday.
Updates are also being posted on UCOL’s Facebook page
and we are in close communication with Civil Defence.
Our campus in Whanganui will be sand-bagged along Taupo Quay to provide as much protection as possible, and equipment moved where possible in the ground floor of blocks B and C.
Civil Defence Centres are open in Wanganui Girls College, Jones St, and St Pauls Church in Guyton St.
All other UCOL sites will be open as usual on Wednesday. If it is not safe for you to travel to any of our other campuses, then don’t.
