Nominations open for UCOL Honours Awards

Know someone who has made an outstanding contribution to UCOL, the community or society in general? Nominate them for UCOL Council Honours Awards.

Nominations for this year’s UCOL Council Honours Awards have now closed and will reopen again in September 2017.  The annual Honours Awards, giving members of public the opportunity to put forward names of those they consider worthy of community recognition -  anyone who has made an outstanding contribution to UCOL, the community or society in general.

UCOL Council Chair Malcolm Inglis says the Awards are the UCOL Council’s way of recognising people who stand as role models to UCOL students, and reflect UCOL’s close connections with its communities.

“We are keen to hear about people in our communities who deserve to be acknowledged for making significant contributions to their communities, New Zealand or even the world. These are values that UCOL respects and seeks to foster in its students.”

There are three types of awards – Honorary Fellow, Honorary Associate, and Institutional Medal. For criteria see the UCOL Council Honours Awards page online.

Seven UCOL Council Honours Awards were presented at UCOL Graduation ceremonies earlier this year following nominations submitted last year:

  • Sir Mason Durie, Honorary Fellow
  • Bruce Dickson, Honorary Associate
  • Amanda Street, Honorary Associate
  • Robert (Tweet) Bird, Institutional Medal
  • Bonnie Dewart, Institutional Medal
  • Kevin Ross, Institutional Medal
  • Clare Crawley, Institutional Medal

The next pool of Honours Award recipients will be announced in early 2017 to mark the start of the new academic year.
