Recognising and celebrating the contribution and success of people in our Regions, including UCOL | Te Pūkenga alumni, took another positive step this week with the inaugural opening of nominations for UCOL | Te Pūkenga Alumni Awards.

In addition to UCOL | Te Pūkenga Council Honours award nominations, the new alumni awards are a mark of respect for the 140,000 graduates that have come through UCOL | Te Pūkenga campuses since 1902.   “We are seeking nominations of UCOL | Te Pūkenga alumni in four categories, in addition to the UCOL | Te Pūkenga Council Honours awards, said UCOL | Te Pūkenga Council Chair Ben Vanderkolk.

Alumni Award categories include an Achievement Award, a Service Award, a Young Alumni Award (under 35) and an overall winner Special Alumni Award which may be granted as an overall winner from the three categories.  Demonstrated by significant and on-going contributions to business or professional life, as well as meritorious service to the community or nation; continued involvement or support to UCOL | Te Pūkenga; excellent leadership skills, thought leadership; respected and recognised in their field of expertise.

“Members of our community and our graduates include dynamic leaders in industry, business and government, with many working tirelessly in their communities and sectors to make a difference. We have been presenting awards to stellar individuals since 2011 and are looking forward to celebrating the newest award recipients, and first alumni award recipients in 2019.”

Nominations are open and close on 4pm, 28 September 2018.  More information and nomination forms are available from the UCOL | Te Pūkenga website.

“It is fitting to run these awards in conjunction with the already established Council Honours Awards, which are focused on recognising contributions from members of the community” said Mr Vanderkolk.   “If you know of a UCOL | Te Pūkenga graduate doing amazing things, or know someone in the community who deserves to be recognised, then this is a great opportunity to highlight their contributions.”

The two series of awards have a number of different categories allowing a breadth of talented individuals to be recognised.  Recipients will be announced at the beginning of the 2019 academic year.
