Chavelle Hanger, a student from UCOL | Te Pūkenga Wairarapa campus, took out first place in the open section at the Woodhaven Gardens Cooking Competition and Kiwi Kids Can Cook this weekend.

Chavelle is a New Zealand Certificate in Baking student who competed with a dish sponsored by Tegel. She created a chicken dish that the panel said “had amazing flavours and tasted even better than it looked!”

The competition was a great opportunity for Chavelle to gain experience and grow her knowledge, something that lecturer Eddie Bleach was more than enthusiastic to support.

The win saw Chavelle taking home a $1000 cash prize and a copy of the New Zealand Association Cook Book.  Chavelle looks forward to furthering her cookery career, going on to study for her New Zealand Certificate in Cookery in 2019.
