The construction of a modern, adaptable Healthcare and Social Services Centre in Palmerston North is on track.
The former PSA House building is owned by Gibbons and will be leased by UCOL | Te Pūkenga. It will be home to our practical courses for nursing, medical imaging, social services, and mental health education.
The transformation of the building is being carried out by Gibbons Naylor and W&W Construction. JTB Architects are working with UCOL on the layout, furniture, fittings, and specialised teaching equipment for the likes of the clinical skills, hospital beds, x-ray labs, imaging labs, simulation areas and teaching spaces, kaimahi work stations and meeting rooms.
Running parallel to that is the installation of information technology requirements such as a nurse call system, server rooms, security system and an underground fibre communication link to the building from Block 9.
UCOL Director Facilities Management Peter Handcock said the project is on track for Gibbons to hand the building over to UCOL in January. The soft fit-out will be completed by February, ready for ākonga to start learning from the new facility.
