Do you enjoy creating and building projects? Are you serious about working in the carpentry, joinery and building industry? UCOL's Academy 2 Day National Certificate in Building, Construction and Allied Trades Skills Programme is a great starting point. 

Over the course of a year you will complete units towards a nationally recognised qualification, gain hands-on skills that employers value, and work as a team to plan and build a class project.

The programme consist 40 credits.

Unit Standard 24350 (Level 2) (Version 2) (6 Credits)
Identify, select, maintain, and use portable power tools for BCATS projects.

Unit Standard 24354 (Level 2) (Version 2) (4 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of and apply safe working practices in a BCATS workplace.

Unit Standard 24357 (Level 2) (Version 2) (4 Credits)
Receive instructions and communicate information in relation to BCATS projects.

Unit Standard 31511 (Level 2) (Version 1) (4 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of BCATS industries.

Unit Standard 24353 (Level 2) (Version 3) (6 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of and create sketches and drawings for BCATS projects.

Unit Standard 24360 (Level 2) (Version 2) (5 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of timber and other construction materials used in BCATS projects.

Unit Standard 12932 (Level 2) (Version 4) (8 Credits)
Construct timber garden furniture and items of basic construction equipment as a BCATS project.

Unit Standard 24361 (Level 2) (Version 3) (3 Credits)
Apply mathematical processes to BCATS projects.

 Domestic Entry Requirements

For year 12 - 13 secondary school students (NZ Citizens, permanent residents or students with an applicable visa allowing them to be enrolled in a secondary school), aged 16 years or over.

Applications are to be received from participating schools.

UCOL's Academy 2 Day National Certificate in Building, Construction and Allied Trade Skills Programme comprises 43 Credits.

This programme is part of a suite of 'Academy 2 Day' programmes offered by UCOL to secondary students seeking to explore their career options while still in school. Gain practical experience and NCEA Credits.

Attendance expectations
Students must maintain appropriate attendance at both secondary school and Academy to remain enrolled in the Academy Programme.

Please note that there are additional costs associated with the New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills:
  • Steel cap boots $100 
  • Scientific calculator $30
  • Drawing equipment - set squares (45 and 60 degree), pencils (H and 2H), soft rubber, compass, and scale rule (1:5, 1:10, 1:20 etc) $60
