New Zealand needs skilled workers to maintain vital resources we all use - wastewater, stormwater, electricity and road networks. 

UCOL's Academy 2 Day New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works Programme is designed to give you core skills and knowledge for the industry. Over the course of a year you will complete units towards a nationally recognised qualification and gain hands-on skills that employers value. Your practical skills will enable you to safely work on infrastructure works sites ranging from civil works, rural construction, surfacing operations and underground utilities.

Apply communication skills on an infrastructure works site.

Describe and complete work records for infrastructure works.

Demonstrate knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements.

Demonstrate knowledge of emergency response in the civil infrastructure industry.

Demonstrate knowledge of working safely at sites under temporary traffic management.

Unit Standard 20878 (Level 2) (1 Credit) 

Assist with temporary traffic Management for low level volume and level one roads.

Unit Standard 17593 (Level 2) (4 Credits) 

Apply safe work practices in the workplace.

Unit Standard 6477 (Level 2) (3 Credits) 

Identify, hand spread, and assist in compacting materials for infrastructure works (practical required).

Unit Standard 23285 (Level 2) (2 Credits) 

Use and care for hand tools used for infrastructure works (practical required).

Unit Standard 6469 (Level 2) (2 Credits) 

Maintain small machinery used on infrastructure works sites (practical required).

Unit Standard 6472 (Level 1) (2 Credits) 

Carry out manual excavation for infrastructure works (practical required).

 Domestic Entry Requirements

For year 12 - 13 secondary school students (NZ Citizens, permanent residents or students with an applicable visa allowing them to be enrolled in a secondary school), aged 16 years or over.

Applications are to be received from participating schools.

Recommended school subjects include:

  • Technology
