Dual Pathways

DualPathways gives you the chance to develop core industry knowledge while working towards NCEA Level 2/3.

Locations: Delivered at a UCOL approved site in Palmerston North, Whanganui and Wairarapa

Duration: 8:30am - 3:30pm, two days per week, 1 year

DualPathways is a new Government initiative designed for senior high school students who wish to transition into tertiary education, whilst developing industry-specific knowledge.

 Career & Study Outcomes

UCOL's Level 2 DualPathways programmes provide you with NCEA relevant credits, while giving you what you need to gain the industry component of a Vocational Pathway Endorsement.

The DualPathways at Level 3 gives you NCEA Level 3 credits and allows you to work towards a NZQF qualification, all the while increasing your industry knowledge and experience. 

 Course Information

Unit standards delivered within each programme are NZQA framework key vocational units from industry training and contribute towards the students' NCEA results. The selection of units delivered will be consistent with the programme aim and learning objective.

DualPathways programmes are delivered in a UCOL approved site as appropriate. Course locations will be confirmed once applications for each programme are finalised. 

Transport assistance is available if you meet certain criteria.

 Domestic Entry Requirements

Open to New Zealand Citizens or permanent residents who are enrolled in Year 12 or 13 at secondary school.

To join one of our DualPathways programmes complete the In School Study Options for 2017 Application Form, ensuring you and your parent/guardian sign the last page. You'll need to include a verified copy of your birth certificate, and ask your school to endorse your application. Send your completed application to:

You'll need to bring your own stationery and lunch.

You'll spend two days per week at UCOL, and the remainder of your week attending your regular classes at school.

When you finish DualPathways you can choose to continue with your education towards your chosen career or change to a new pathway. Your options include staying at school and continuing to study towards NCEA, Gateway or work experience, or seeking employment as a regular employee or apprentice. You can also pursue further tertiary study and progress the next stage of your qualification.
