Alice Stewart

Nursing Lecturer

Alice Stewart, Nursing Lecturer

“I was always interested in health and physiology, but I also wanted a practical career, something with a focus on goals.  Nursing seemed like it would encompass all of that and since taking it on, I wouldn’t change my career choice.  It’s a pretty unlimited career path and an ever-changing industry.  It’s definitely not boring.”

Originally from the Wairarapa, Alice is shortly returning to her roots in Masterton to lecture at UCOL after her recent overseas adventure.  She completed her Bachelor of Nursing at Massey University, her Post Graduate Certificate in Nursing Science at Victoria University and has been working towards her Masters at Massey, all while balancing her practical nursing career.

“My husband and I spent time working in Australia before cycling through America and exploring Portugal, Spain and France.”

“I love learning and so teaching, while new for me, is an exciting step in my career.  The class sizes are small which means I get a lot of one-on-one time with students, which I enjoy.  The team here is so inclusive, I love being a part of it.”

When asked what her advice would be to potential nursing students, Alice is excited to share why nursing is a career for life.

“It’s a great career.  It can be difficult and it’s also rewarding.  You work with people so every day is different and you also gain a lot of skills through studying nursing and working in the industry.  You would be surprised by how many skills you gain in this line of work that is easily transferrable to other career paths.”
