With over 27 years as a beauty therapist and salon owner, Whanganui Beauty lecturer Tania Mitchell knows a thing or two about how to make it work in industry.
After training in Australia and Palmerston North, Tania came back to Whanganui to set up her salon, Beauty Secrets.
"Running a business taught me a lot about the beauty therapy industry, and in particular how important it is to hold full qualifications to protect yourself, and your clients," she says.
"This experience has proven invaluable as a teacher, where sharing my real life experiences of what works and what doesn't with my students allows them to start applying that knowledge before they even start their first job."
An expert in Electrolysis, Tania is a believer in the importance of lifelong learning, something that turned her to teaching at UCOL five years ago.
"It is important for beauty therapists to stay contemporary, and up with current trends and techniques. At UCOL we try and set that lifelong learning mentality for our students now, so they carry it with them into industry."
