The following are scholarship opportunities for students of UCOL Wairarapa in Masterton . 

Scholarships closing February/March/April/May

General Scholarships

  • Andrew Cliff Award - a UCOL staff member must nominate applicants. It's aimed at students who have demonstrated a willingness to support and aid others with their course of study. Up to $1,000. Closes 29 May.
  • Masterton District Council Scholarship - available to Masterton residents who are students of UCOL Wairarapa. $750. Closes 29 May.
  • REAP House Scholarship - available to students enrolled in and attending a programme at UCOL Wairarapa. $1,000. Closes 29 May.

Chef Training & Hospitality

  • Trust House Professional Cookery Awards  - available to students of New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 4) studying at UCOL Wairarapa. $3,500. Sponsored by Trust House Limited and awarded at the discretion of staff. Closes April.


  • Child Forum Men in ECE Invitation Award - This award welcomes men into the early childhood care and education profession. Applicants must be male, studying towards a degree/diploma in early childhood education, and have enrolled within the last 60 days.  $400.
  • TeachNZ Early Childhood Scholarships - Open to people entering study into their initial teaching qualification who have knowledge, understanding and experience of working with Māori or Pasifika communities and want to teach in the early childhood sector.  Course fees and $10,000 over the period of study. Closes February.

Scholarships closing August

Female students

  • Betty Loughhead Soroptimist Scholarship - Available to female students who are New Zealand citizens aged at least 25 years as at 1 September 2019, enrolled in study at UCOL, with a proven record of academic achievement, able to use the scholarship in 2021. Closes the end of August.
  • Sir Robert Jones Refugee Daughters' Scholarship - Available to young women from refugee backgrounds to complete a tertiary qualification. Tuition fees will be paid in full through to degree attainment, subject to satisfactory examination results. Hostel accommodation will be paid for the first two years of study if the student attends a tertiary institution outside their home town.

Māori Students

  • Māori CPA Australia Scholarship - Available to Māori students with the best-qualified applications based on tertiary academic results and will assist recipients to meet education requirements needed to attain CPA status.

General Scholarships

  • Colleen McPherson Memorial Grant - Available to a UCOL student who has a disability or who has a dependant with a disability, and is facing additional costs or exceptional circumstances. $1,000.
  • UCOL Scholarship for Effort and Achievement - Available to a dedicated UCOL student who has demonstrated academic effort and achievement (not necessarily a 'straight A' student). $1,000.

Health and Sciences

  • New Zealand Seniors Aged Care Futures Grant: The grant of $5,000 is awarded to one eligible student enrolled full-time in an accredited New Zealand Tertiary Education Institution and be studying for a certificate, diploma, degree or traineeship in any of the following areas:aged care, aged care nursing, dementia care, disabilities care, or any other courses leading to similar careers as an aged carer. The application is open until October 31, 2020.

  • GCSB STEM Scholarship for Women - Open to female students (second year and above) studying Science (e.g. IT related), Technology, Engineering or Mathematics. $10,000. Closes 1 October.

  • One Choice Future Grant: The $5,000 grant is awarded to one eligible student a year. The applicant should have enrolled full-time in an accredited New Zealand Tertiary Education Institution and be studying for a certificate, diploma, degree or traineeship in any of the following areas: business, finance, medicine, healthcare, specialist healthcare.
