Visit UCOL to see and create floats for Lit Night Ride

UCOL is proud to have two of the Manawatu Region's most creative people onsite building floats for the Lit Night Ride cycling event in Palmerston North.

Bridget  Murphy and Jim Richards from Rangiwahia Environmental Arts Centre are creating lantern style floats to be pulled by bicycles at Lit Night Ride on Friday. All are welcome to come over to UCOL to see the lanterns being crafted and even make bling for your own bike for the night ride.

Pictured at the very top and with Bridget and Jim is a float called Comrade Ship. This represents heroic actions of the past and present and honours Huria Matenga and whanau during the sinking of the Delaware in 1863, and those that save and help the refugees arriving by boat in Europe currently. This float was originally created at NMIT in the run up to Light Nelson in July 2016, and also featured in the Lucid Dream Bike event on Wellington's Waterfront.
