Students who excel in and outside the classroom were recognised and rewarded for their efforts at a recent ceremony at UCOL’s Palmerston North Campus.
Over $15,000 in scholarships were awarded to Palmerston North Campus students this year. This included scholarships funded by UCOL, as well as those awarded by the Jaycee Trust, Soroptimist International Palmerston North, and Graduate Women Manawatu.
Scholarship recipients were chosen based on a number of factors including academic grades, work ethic, financial need, and how they contribute to UCOL and the Manawatu community.

“This support will help me to pursue my dreams, and for that I cannot thank those who have helped me enough. I promise I will work hard to prove myself worthy of this opportunity. I’m looking forward to the day I am able to help others as UCOL has helped me.”
Amrit is already volunteering his ICT skills to the Bhutanese Society by doing graphic design, overseeing social media, and helping children with software used in their English Language classes.
Scholarship recipient Chloe Maxwell (pictured in the lead image above) says scholarships help students further their education, and urges others to apply.
“I hope that other students take advantage of these scholarship opportunities because they are very helpful.”
Aiming to complete the
Bachelor of Applied Management with a double major in Accounting and Project Management this year, Chloe says the scholarship will help her when she returns to UCOL next year to complete extra Accounting courses.
UCOL Executive Director Business Development Dr Arthur Chin says, “It is thanks to the generosity of donor organisations that we’re able to offer scholarships that make such a significant difference to the lives of our students.”
Dr Chin says the scholarship recipients have all set great examples for other students.
“UCOL exists to inspire students, businesses, and our communities to succeed, and the scholarship recipients are a testimony to that vision.”
