Develop the knowledge you have of how to excel within your sport as an athlete, and understand how the body works and how nutrition is going to help you succeed. Join UCOL's Academy Exercise and Sport Programme to acquire industry knowledge and experience in relation to sporting pathways. You will have the opportunity to work towards NCEA Level 2 whilst exploring the technical skills required to work in the exercise and sport industry.

Unit Standard 21649 (Level 2) (Version 2) (3 Credits)
Apply knowledge of basic anatomy to the performance of sport skills.

Unit Standard 467 (Level 2) (Version 5) (3 Credits)
Demonstrate personal and social development through participation in adventure based learning.

Unit Standard 21793 (Level 2) (Version 2) (2 Credits)
Demonstrate correct technique when using basic gym equipment.

Unit Standard 21794 (Level 2) (Version 1) (3 Credits)
Demonstrate, instruct, and monitor static stretching.

Unit Standard 21795 (Level 2) (Version 2) (3 Credits)
Demonstrate, instruct, and monitor safe and correct use of cardiovascular exercise equipment.

Unit Standard 22769 (Level 2) (Version 2) (2 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of basic skills and rules at a beginner level for a sport.

Unit Standard 22770 (Level 2) (Version 3) (4 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of sports coaching, the coaching environment, and sport participants' needs.

 Domestic Entry Requirements

For year 11 - 13 secondary school students (NZ Citizens, permanent residents or students with an applicable visa allowing them to be enrolled in a secondary school).

Applications are to be received from participating schools.

Recommended school subjects include:
  • Maths
  • Biology

UCOL's Academy Exercise and Sport Programme comprises 20 Credits.

This programme is part of a suite of 'Academy' programmes offered by UCOL to secondary students seeking to explore their career options while still in school. Gain practical experience and NCEA Credits.

Fees-free when criteria are met.

Transport assistance is available if you meet the criteria.

Attendance expectations
Students must maintain appropriate attendance at both secondary school and Academy to remain enrolled in the Academy Programme.

There are no additional costs associated with this programme. Simply, bring a pen, paper and your lunch each week.
