Originally from Jakarta, Indonesia, Lia Sutedjo moved to New Zealand 16 years ago with her son to pursue better education and a new life.
“I love New Zealand culture and feel safe and respected regardless of where I come from. I came to improve my career options and there are many opportunities to do so in New Zealand.”
The move to New Zealand inspired Lia to make a change from her Business and Marketing background to pursue a career in Health Science.
After a recommendation from a friend, Lia took the plunge and enrolled in UCOL’s Certificate in Science and Health on the Palmerston North campus.
“I wanted to update my science knowledge and re-familiarise myself with studying as it had been such a long time. The programme fits my needs perfectly.”
With the aim of securing a career in Medical Imaging Technology (MIT), Lia says she’s glad she chose to study a Certificate in Science and Health. “MIT is very competitive. The Certificate programme prepared me for this study and I now have much more confidence,” she says.
UCOL offered Lia a range of programmes to help her succeed in the Health Science industry.
She says she found UCOL a very supportive environment. “All of the lecturers and support staff were more than happy to help out with any problems I had.”
Being accepted into the MIT programme was one of Lia’s biggest achievements.
Once she graduates with the Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Imaging Technology) Lia would like to find a radiographer position and eventually specialize in mammography.
“There is still a long road ahead of me, but on my UCOL journey I have already achieved so much and look forward to more enjoyable experiences.”
