Whanganui students honoured with scholarships

The scholarships are awarded to students in recognition of effort and achievement, or to assist with financial hardship.

Bachelor of Design and Arts student Sonia Forsey received an H & A Print Scholarship, and says it was a huge boost to her confidence.

“It was really awesome. It validates the hard work and why you’re doing the course.”

“I’ve got a family with two small children, so this takes the pressure off.  My computer is broken so I’ll be able to get it fixed and pay some money off my student loan.” 

Scholarship donors this semester included Akoranga Education Trust, Arthur Wheeler Leedstown Trust, Belgravia Capital Ltd., Wanganui Education Trust, H & A Print, and a new donor, The Grand Hotel.

Whanganui Campus Manager says generosity of the scholarship donors makes a huge difference in the lives of the students. 

“They fully support UCOL not only through scholarships, but they’ve started to become advocates and employers for UCOL students and graduates. It completes that pathway of someone starting out studying and then moving onto employment.” 

“It’s wonderful to not only have donors, but donors who understand the challenges students face and the difference getting a scholarship makes.”
