This STAR programme is designed to introduce students to programming lighting for theatre shows and concerts.

With the UCOL STAR Entertainment and Event Technology course, learners will get to work with industry-trained professionals where they will use lighting programming software, visualisation software, and a lighting console to programme a light show, using moving head fittings, to a song of their choice. Learners will also get an overview of entertainment lighting along the way.

 Course Hours & Duration

This course comprises 25 hours. 

Delivered on Wednesdays from 9am - 3pm over 5 weeks.

Successful completion of the UCOL STAR Entertainment and Event Technology course is the first step in a journey. Equipped with new skills and a taste for the industry, this course provides the first step towards further study and a career as a Theatre Technician, Event Technician, Lighting Designer, or Drama Teacher.

This course comprises 3 credits:

Unit Standard 32940-V17 (Level 3) ( 3 Credits)

Demonstrate the application of new skills achieved with self-directed learning in a digital context



 Domestic Entry Requirements

For year 11 - 13 secondary school learners (NZ Citizens, permanent residents or learners with an applicable visa allowing them to be enrolled in a secondary school).

Applications are to be received from participating schools.
Learners must have experience with vocals and/or an instrument.

Costs
Fees-free for learners. Upon successful application, your school will pay UCOL a fee.




 Additional Costs

Learners will need to bring headphones and a USB Memory Stick which is either new or formatted to FAT32. 

Learners will also need to bring a pen, paper and lunch each week.
