 UCOL Te Pūkenga Scholarships

The following are scholarship opportunities for students of UCOL Te Pūkenga. 


Education

Child Forum Men in ECE Invitation Award: This award welcomes men into the early childhood care and education profession. Applicants must be male, a New Zealand citizen or NZ resident studying towards a degree/diploma in early childhood education, and have enrolled within the last 60 days.

Scholarship: $400 (Grant) + OECE 12-month educator membership.

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Apply within 60 days of course commencement.


TeachNZ Early Childhood Scholarships: This scholarship is open to people entering study into their initial teaching qualification who have knowledge, understanding and experience of working with Māori or Pasifika communities and want to teach in the early childhood sector. 

Scholarship: Course fees and allowance up to $30,000.

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close in February and November.

Health and Sciences

L.A. Alexander Trust Bursary: This award is for UCOL Te Pūkenga students studying Primary Industries or Veterinary Nursing or Science who are from the Taranaki/Waverley area. Up to 50% of course fees. Additionally, the John McIntyre Memorial Scholarship of up to $10,000 and the Kathleen Corlett Memorial Scholarship of up to $1000 may also be awarded to an applicant at the discretion of the Trustees.

Scholarship: Up to 50% of course fees + additional scholarship worth $21,000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū.

Applications close on 28 February each year.


New Zealand Nurses Organisation Scholarships and Grants: New Zealand Nurses Organisation offers several national and regional scholarships for undergraduate nursing students.

Scholarship: Up to $5000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close at various times throughout the year.


New Zealand Seniors Aged Care Futures Grant: This grant is awarded to one eligible student enrolled full-time in an accredited New Zealand Tertiary Education Institution and is studying for a certificate, diploma, degree or traineeship in any of the following areas: aged care, aged care nursing, dementia care, disabilities care, or any other courses leading to similar careers as an aged carer.

Scholarship: $5000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close on 31 October.


SPCA Pet Insurance Future Animal Carer’s Grant: This grant is offered annually to one person. To be eligible, you must be enrolled full-time and be studying for a certificate, diploma, degree or traineeship in evidence-based animal care that aligns with SPCA’s organisational position. This includes vet nursing and animal care. To apply for the Grant, you will need to write an essay (maximum 500 words) on why you want to work in your selected industry and the difference you hope to make in your particular field of study. Scholarship: $5000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications open in February and close in October each year.


Trades and Technology

Earle Creativity and Development Trust – Science & Technology Grant: A grant to advance a project in the area of Technology that will build ‘new’ into science and technology projects that lead to useful outcomes. Projects should be broadly local and originate within the Manawatū and Rangitīkei region. There could be a wide range of these, with grant amounts appropriate to the project. Possibilities are wide, including aspects of engineering, metalworking, electronics, information technology, ceramics, woodworking, processing of biological or other materials, including food, and manufacturing. Beneficiaries could include individuals or groups, including small and medium-sized businesses. Grants should encourage technical abilities and technology in the region and so result in charitable outcomes for the benefit of the districts, such as job creation.

Scholarship: up to $50,000 (2022)

Freemasons Willson Lewis Scholarship: Offered by Manawatū Kilwinning Freemasons Lodge, Master Builders, Master Painters and UCOL Te Pūkenga to qualified tradespeople working in the Trades industry. The aim of the scholarship is to help people advance their trades career and take on more responsibility in the workplace by learning new business skills.

Scholarship: up to $6000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū and UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui.

Applications will open August each year.


ManawaTech ICT ScholarshipThis scholarship is available to final year ICT students studying on the Manawatū campus. Must have either attended a Manawatū high school or have lived in the Manawatū for at least five years. This scholarship also offers employment and/or internship opportunities and chances for networking and advocacy.

Scholarship: 2 x $1000 (one in Semester 1 and one in Semester 2)

Ann Sinclair Tertiary Farming and Agricultural Study Funding: This scholarship is available to students studying farming and covers education, travel and accommodation expenses.

Hi-Tech Foundation Scholarship: The Hi-Tech Foundation’s 'He Whetū Mārama Ngā Karahipi / Leading Light Scholarship Programme’ provides financial support for the career development and advancement of New Zealand technology students. The scholarship covers the tuition and living costs.

Scholarship: $5,000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close on 31 October 2022.


Webjet New Zealand Student Grant: Webjet Australia + New Zealand are offering a $5000AUD scholarship to one student in their final or penultimate year of study on a business, IT or digital design certificate, diploma or degree course. To apply, students must write a 700-word essay based on a specific prompt (more details on the website below). Students must be enrolled full-time at UCOL Te Pūkenga, be at least 18 years old and be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.

Scholarship: $5,000 AUD (approx. $5,300 NZD).

Māori & Pasifika Students

Frances Irwin Hunt Art Scholarship: This scholarship is available to full-time Māori students studying performing or cultural arts.

Scholarship: $1,000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close March each year.


Regina Rudland Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is available to students of Ngāti Porou descent undertaking study agriculture or apiculture at level 3 or higher.

Scholarship: $500

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close April each year.


Roy Watling Mitchell Bursaries Scholarship: This scholarship is available to Māori undergraduate students in their second or subsequent year of study in 2022. Priority will be given to students with financial needs.

Scholarship: $1000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close March each year.


Awhina Nursing Scholarship: This scholarship is available to full-time Māori undergraduate students enrolled at UCOL Te Pūkenga Palmerston North Campus in their second or subsequent year of study for a Bachelor of Nursing.

Scholarship: $1000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close March each year.


Norman Kirk Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is available to full-time Māori undergraduate students.

Scholarship: $1000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close March each year.


Tupu Tai Pasifika Public Policy Internship Programme: This is an opportunity for students and recent graduates of Pacific descent to gain real-world experience and experience the incredible opportunities within the Government/Public sector.

This internship round will run full-time from 15 November 2021 to 28 January 2022.

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Ti Maru Māori Trust Prestigious Scholarship: This is available to Māori graduates enrolled in their final year of study with a record of academic excellence.

Scholarship: $5000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close April each year. 


Ngarimu VC and 28th (Māori) Battalion Memorial Scholarships: This is available for Māori descendants undertaking tertiary study and possesses characteristics consistent with members of the 28th (Māori) Battalion.

Scholarship: $5000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications will open in June 2023.


Māori CPA Australia Scholarship: This is available to Māori students with the best-qualified applications based on tertiary academic results and will assist recipients in meeting the education requirements needed to attain CPA status.

Scholarship: $5000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications open on May 2023.


Fenton Te Rauparaha Ralph Flavell Memorial Scholarship: This is available to Māori students committed to te reo me ona tikanga who are studying full-time at UCOL Te Pūkenga.

Scholarship: $1000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close in September each year.

Scholarship for Female Students

Graduate Women Manawatu Charitable Trust AwardThis is available to female students enrolled in a full-time degree course. High academic achievement is a key criterion.

Scholarship: Up to $2,000 per award

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close on 10 April 2023.


New Horizons for Women Trust's Second Chance Education Training Awards: This is available to female students enrolled in a full-time degree course. High academic achievement is a crucial criterion.

Scholarship: Range from $1000 to $4000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close at various times throughout the year.


Women in Trades Grant: This grant is to support many female students in the UCOL Te Pūkenga Trades, STEM or Trades & Technology courses* by providing financial help to assist with their identified needs. This grant can be used for costs to help you undertake your studies, as identified and justified by you (the applicant), and Fees-Free funding options, such as the Targeted Training Apprenticeship Fund (TTAF) available for trades study.

Scholarship: $1000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Post-Young Trades and Enterprise Award: This is offered for the first time in 2022. The Post-Young Trades and Enterprise award is for a woman under thirty to study towards a trade qualification or apprenticeship.

Scholarship: $1000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close on 15 April each year.


Women in Audio Award: This award aims to support women in music creation and encourage women in technical roles in the music industry. The award funds provide financial support for a woman studying or starting their audio engineering or music production careers so they can buy equipment and software to build an 'audio toolkit'.

Scholarship: $2000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Teupoko'ina Utanga Morgan Memorial Second-chance Education Award: The Teupoko'ina Utanga Morgan Memorial Second-chance Education Award is for a Pasifika woman studying towards a qualification in early childhood education.

Scholarship: $3000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close on 15 April each year.


Inspiring Women in IT Award: The 'Inspiring Women in IT' award aims to support women aged over 25 in studying or training for a career in information technology.

Scholarship: $1000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close on 15 April each year.


Betty Loughhead Soroptimist Scholarship: The scholarship is available to female students who are New Zealand citizens aged at least 25 years as of 1 September of the year of application, enrolled in studying at UCOL Te Pūkenga, with a proven record of academic achievement.

Scholarship: $3000 - $5000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close on 31 August each year. 


Sir Robert Jones Refugee Daughters Scholarship: The scholarship is available to young women from refugee backgrounds to complete a tertiary qualification. The scholarship will cover the tuition fees in full through to degree attainment, subject to satisfactory examination results and the hostel accommodation for the first two years of study if the student attends a tertiary institution outside their home town.

GCSB STEM Scholarship for Women: The scholarship is available to female students (second year and above) studying Science (e.g. IT related), Technology, Engineering or Mathematics.

Scholarship: $10,000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close on 1 October each year.


General Scholarships

Andrew Cliff Award: The scholarship is for students who have demonstrated a willingness to support and aid others with their course of study. A UCOL Te Pūkenga staff member must nominate applicants.

Scholarship: $1000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close in September each year.


Central Energy Trust Bursaries: Th bursary is available to New Zealand citizens or permanent residents residing in the Manawatu/Tararua region who are commencing their first year of tertiary study in 2019. Candidates will be assessed based on factors including academic record, participation in cultural, sports or community activities, future leadership potential and financial need. In addition, a higher weighting on school academic performance will apply.

Scholarship: $15,000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close in November each year.


Colleen McPherson Memorial Grant: The scholarship is available to a UCOL Te Pūkenga student who has a disability or is dependent on a disability and is facing additional costs or exceptional circumstances.

Scholarship: $1000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close in September each year.


Earle Creativity and Development Trust – Visual Arts: A grant to support developments in the visual fine arts and enhance the artistic community in the Manawatū and Rangitīkei districts. The Trust encourages individual and group creativity and offers help with resourcing for artistic outcomes that will be accessible to the public in one form or another, for example, displayed in public buildings or publicly available spaces as appropriate. The Trust encourages creating novel work of visual artistic merit in any media or technique. Beneficiaries could include individuals or groups.

Scholarship: up to $50,000 (2022)

Applications will open in 2024.


Jaycee Trust Travelling Fellowship Scheme: The Jaycee Trust offers a Travelling Fellowship Scheme to successful applicants. The funding is towards the travel costs for a study programme or a special project within or beyond New Zealand.

Scholarship: $5000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications will open mid-2023.


Jaycee Trust Scholarship: Supported by Palmerston North Jaycee Trust in association with Palmerston North City Council, this scholarship is available to students who demonstrate academic merit, interest and leadership in community affairs. The scholarship will consider your plans for the future and financial circumstances.

Scholarship: $1500

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū

Applications close in September each year.


One Choice Future Grant: The grant is awarded to one eligible student a year. The applicant should have enrolled full-time in an accredited New Zealand Tertiary Education Institution and be studying for a certificate, diploma, degree or traineeship in any of the following areas: business, finance, medicine, healthcare, specialist healthcare.

Scholarship: $5000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa and UCOL Horowhenua.

Applications close on 31 October each year.


UCOL Scholarship for Effort and Achievement: The scholarship is available to a dedicated UCOL Te Pūkenga student who has demonstrated academic effort and achievement (not necessarily a 'straight A' student).

Scholarship: $1000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Manawatū, UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui, UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa and UCOL Te Pūkenga Horowhenua.

Applications close in September each year.


Wairarapa REAP Tertiary Scholarship: The scholarship is available to students intending to enrol or currently studying a programme at UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa.

Scholarship: $1000

Region: UCOL Wairarapa

Applications closed in March each year. 


UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa and Carterton District Council Scholarship: This scholarship by Carterton District Council is offered to one UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa student who is a resident of the Carterton District to assist with course-related costs and/or living expenses.

Scholarship: $1000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa

Applications close in May each year. 


The Carterton District Trust Scholarship: The Trust awards scholarships to students who either are or have at some time been resident within the Trust District for the purpose of assisting such students in their post-primary or university education or in continuing their studies. Applicants must be starting or have started their tertiary course of study within three years of leaving school and currently or have at any time resided within the boundaries of the districts of Carterton and Wairarapa South.

Scholarship: Up to $1,000 for the first year, up to $800 for the 2nd year and up to $600 for the 3rd year.

Masterton District Council Scholarship: This scholarship is available to Masterton residents who are students of UCOL Te Pūkenga Wairarapa.

Scholarship: $1,000

Masterton Trust Lands Trust - Career Change Scholarship: The scholarship is for individuals who are undertaking a course of study in order to change career or to return to the workforce.

Scholarship: $2000

Region: UCOL Wairarapa

Applications close 30 June and 28 February. 


UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui Scholarships: The scholarships are available to full-time students of UCOL Whanganui.

Scholarship: $500 - $2000

Region: UCOL Te Pūkenga Whanganui

Applications open June each year. 


Top
