If you live in Whanganui and wish to study/work in Palmerston North, you can travel free by bus with Horizons each weekday, except public holidays. Free wifi is available. Simply present your UCOL ID to the driver and you'll be issued a ticket.

6:45 am - The bus departs from UCOL in Whanganui. It stops at the Bulls Community Centre at 7:20 am, Sanson (37 Dundas Road) at 7.30 am, and arrives in Palmerston North at 7:45 am.

5.15 pm - The bus leaves Palmerston North for the return trip and arrives at UCOL Whanganui at 6:30 pm.

Pick-up in Bulls

This isn't a scheduled stop, and space isn't guaranteed, but it is possible to catch the bus and be dropped off there on the return trip. A new bus terminal is now operating in Bulls, and this will be the point of collection for UCOL students using the 501 Bus service. This will affect both bus services - Whanganui Commuter (501) Bus Service and the UCOL Palmerston North to Whanganui Service.

Pick-up in Sanson

Students can catch the Whanganui to Palmerston North commuter bus in Sanson. This bus is free for UCOL students. The Sanson pick-up location is only available to UCOL students and staff, and you'll need to call Tranzit the day before to confirm your pick-up. Tranzit's contact number is 06 355 4955 (dial 2 for Tranzit office).

The pick-up location is opposite the Z petrol station on the State Highway, and the bus should arrive in Sanson at around 7:30 am. Drop-off is outside Z.  The pick-up location is not marked as a bus stop, so please signal to the driver when the bus approaches. The Marton commuter service also uses this location, so please ensure you get on the Whanganui bus as the Marton bus has a cost.

Horowhenua to Palmerston North

Horizons Regional Council also runs a commuter bus from Levin to Palmerston North. Although this is not free for students, there is a discounted rate for tertiary students and further discounted if you use a Bee Card. Take a look at the timetable and fares here.
