U-Skills STAR Science Magic Taster

This taster is designed to introduce students to the magical world of science. You will get a hands-on science experience to fire your enthusiasm for science while learning some science concepts and skills.

This in-person event is your chance to test the thrilling realm of the hands-on experience of applied science and ignite your curiosity and passion.

Delivered from 9am - 3pm.

For year 11 - 13 secondary school learners (NZ Citizens, permanent residents or learners with an applicable visa allowing them to be enrolled in a secondary school). Applications are to be received from participating schools.

This STAR Taster is the first step in exploring this career pathway which can lead to further tertiary studies in:

• New Zealand Diploma in Applied Science (Level 5)

• New Zealand Diploma in Applied Science (Level 6)

• Bachelor of Applied Science (Laboratory Science)

Once qualified in a NZ Diploma in Science or Bachelor in Applied Science (Lab Science), you have the opportunity to work as a technician with some of New Zealand's leading scientists in a wide range of scientific disciplines. Roles include: Food science technician, Industrial laboratory technician, Research technician and Quality assurance technician.

This STAR Taster is offered by UCOL to secondary learners seeking to explore their career options while still in school.

Costs

Fees-free for learners. Upon successful application, your school will pay UCOL a fee.

There are no additional costs for this taster. Simply bring pen, paper and your lunch, along with closed shoes and tie your hair back if below your ears.
