UCOL | Te Pūkenga values the growth and success of its academic staff. We do this by in a number of days.
There is a strong connection between staff and senior management at UCOL | Te Pūkenga, with monthly discussions on each campus led by Chief Executive Linda Sissons, and an annual Staff Welcome Day to set the scene for the year. We also have a shared intranet to help keep each other in the loop on what’s happening on campuses and a number of other communications that are shared across the whole UCOL | Te Pūkenga whānau.
Whilst UCOL | Te Pūkenga prefers that teaching staff hold an adult teaching qualification, we understand that this is not always possible. Newly appointed academic staff who do not hold such a qualification will be enrolled in a formal programme of study to complete the UCOL | Te Pūkenga preferred tertiary teaching qualification.
We also have a new employee orientation programme designed for our new staff to UCOL | Te Pūkenga, so that they get started at UCOL | Te Pūkenga in the best possible way. This includes a pōwhiri or mihi whakatau, joined by co-workers from across the campus. This is also where they are first introduced to Te Atakura, a UCOL | Te Pūkenga unique learning approach.
Teaching staff attend for a whole day and participate in additional orientation programmes, learning about teaching strategies, technology in teaching, and assessment and moderation.
